When was the last time you had a salad that included…
Alfalfa, Amla Fruit, Apple, Asparagus, Bamboo Grass, Banana, Broccoli, Burdock, Cabbage, Carrot, Celery, Chinese Cabbage, Chive, Chlorella, Clover, Cucumber, Daikon, Radish, Dandelion, Eggplant, Garland Chrysanthemum, Garlic, Ginger, Grape, Green Pea, Green Pea Sprout, Green Perilla, Japanese Cedar, Japanese Parsley, Kale, Knotweed, Kombu, Leek, Lemon, Lettuce, Lotus Rhizome, Moringa, Mugwort, Mung Bean Sprout, Mushroom Shiitake, Mushroom Enokitake, Mushroom Maitake, Mushroom Reishi, Mushroom Turkey Tail, Onion, Orange Peel, Oriental Celery, Parsley, Pear, Pineapple, Plantain, Pumpkin, Purslane, Secale Cereale, Spinach, Spirulina, Strawberry, Sweet Pepper, Tomato, Turnip, Udo, Wakame Seaweed, Wolfberry Fruit, and Wolfberry Sprouted Leaves
…if you answered never, I’m right there with you!!!
With NingXia Greens, getting your daily dose of fruits and greens (there are 2-3 servings in every scoop) is as simple as scooping our superfood powder into your favorite drink.
Now, I’ve been drinking it in just plain ol’ water. And you know what, the taste is really quite mild. Yes, it is slightly reminiscent of drinking a liquid salad, but definitely not overpowering or bitter.
I promise.
Keep in mind, NingXia Greens is a supplement, it's not meant to be sipped on. It's meant to be mixed with just enough water to dissolve the greens and then drink 'er down.
There may be conflicting opinions on what makes up a healthy diet, but one thing most experts agree on is the nutritive value of whole food over processed food, along with getting in more greens.
Greens powders, like NingXia Greens, are dried powdered forms of vegetables and fruits condensed down into a blend that’s easy to take.
As an interesting side note: YL uses a fermented superfood blend as the fermentation process helps to break down compounds found in plant matter that can interfere with mineral absorption.
Adding a scoop of NingXia Greens, which contains 60+ nutrient-rich vegetables, fruits, herbs, algae, and mushrooms, to your daily routine, is a simple way to elevate your nutrition and fill in the gaps.
It’s pretty amazing what these nutrient-dense plant ingredients do in our body. For example:
• Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, kale, and turnips contain a compound called indole-3-carbinol that helps balance hormones
• Spinach is rich in folate and betaine, while spirulina offers methionine, all three are compounds that play a vital role in the body’s natural detoxification process
• Mushrooms, which have been used for centuries, support cellular energy, mental focus, and immune function (check out this post by Andrea Lahman to learn more)
• Apples are packed with polyphenols along with pectin, a super prebiotic for friendly gut bacteria
I had to look up several of the ingredients on the label of NingXia Greens as they aren’t everyday foods we see in the produce section of our local grocery store.
Here are a few things I learned:
Amla Fruit - is also known as Indian Gooseberry and supports the immune system due to its rich Vitamin C content
Burdock - a vegetable native to Northern Asia and Europe is most commonly used as a digestive aid
Garland Chrysanthemum - is an edible plant native to East Asia and is rich in chlorogenic acid (you’ll want to look that up, wink, wink)
Green Perilla - also known as Beefsteak plant is a member of the mint family and is known for supporting the respiratory system as well as being an antidote for food poisoning
Knotweed - is an herb known to help improve circulation and blood flow throughout the body
Udo - a vegetable in the ginseng family used in Chinese medicine to reduce muscle and joint pain
Now it’s your turn.
What is one ingredient in NingXia Greens that is new to you??? Take a moment to look it up and then come back and share what you learned.

Secale Cereale

Secale cereale, also known as rye flower pollen extract, is a non-allergenic and sustainably sourced extract that contains full-spectrum nutrients such as amino acids, phytosterols, fatty acids, carotenoids, flavonoids, vitamins, minerals, and enzymes, this extract is clinically shown to display antioxidant and detoxifying capacity and maintain cellular oxidative stress through significant decrease of GSSG (oxidized glutathione).*

Secale cereale is actually a type of grass (rye) that belongs to the graminae family, and is extensively grown as a grain used in foods and beverages, such as flour, bread, beer, and certain types of whiskey.

Unfortunately none of secale cereale’s health benefits are accessible through the last item on that list… well maybe if you want to add your Ningxia Greens to it. Totally kidding of course, but secale cereale’s pollen extract has many benefits which is why it’s used as an ingredient in many natural wellness supplements.
To make rye pollen extract from rye grass, they first harvest the rye at peak season, before removing the pollen sacs (known as flowers) and isolating the pollen itself. From there, an extraction process is performed in order to isolate the nutrients and amino acids that give rye pollen its benefits, resulting in the pure powder found in supplements. It’s no wonder it holds up to our Seed to Seal standards.
Rye grass’s pollen extract usage in regards to natural wellness supplements is for the support it lends to a healthy body and cellular function and reducing inflammation and decreasing oxidized glutathione. Essentially, it helps the very core elements of our bodies function properly and helps target oxidized glutathione, which is not good for our bodies. In fact, imbalanced and low levels of natural glutathione (aka not oxidized) have been linked to quite a few diseases.

Rye Pollen Extract Benefits:
Rye pollen’s benefits stem from the extract’s incredible chemical make-up. When it’s in the highly concentrated form found in Ningxia Greens, rye pollen extract is extremely rich in a wide spectrum of nutrients that includes:
- Amino acids - Cells use amino acids as building blocks for enzymes and proteins, and they are important for healthy cell function.
- Antioxidants - Help to protect cells and tissue from damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are unstable, highly reactive molecules that cause oxidative stress to our bodies.
- Phytosterols - Naturally occurring plant compounds that support healthy cholesterol levels.
- Fatty acids - Also known as Omega-3 fatty acids, fatty acids are integral to cell membranes, and also promote strong cardiovascular health.
- Flavonoids & Carotenoids - Naturally occurring plant pigments that act as powerful antioxidants, and can ease cell irritation.
- Enzymes - Proteins used to speed up biological processes. The enzymes contained in rye pollen extract may also help to support prostate function.
- Vitamins & Minerals - In addition to a wide spectrum of essential vitamins, rye pollen extract is especially rich in the minerals zinc and selenium that support healthy body function.

Secale cereale (rye) pollen extract gives cells the nourishment they need to stay healthy, strong, and function properly. Men who take supplements with Secale cereale pollen extract can also see added prostate health benefits due to its ability to nourish and strengthen cells and tissue. Which means of course that anyone who takes it will see cells and tissue strengthened as a result, leading to healthy maintenance of the structure and function of the body. That’s a big win for all of us.

As studies continue to show, decreasing oxidized glutathione, one of the key functions of Secale cereale, and encouraging the body to produce natural, healthy glutathione levels through increasing intake of healthful foods and supplements, like Ningxia Greens, has been linked to many health benefits, including:
Reducing cell damage
Reducing the effects of certain diseases on the body
Supporting immune function
Helping the liver and gallbladder deal with fats
Making DNA
Helping certain enzymes function properly

The more they study what having balanced, non-oxidized glutathione levels in our bodies can do, the more we will see just how much ingredients like Secale cereale help us as we take them daily!
Having Secale cereale pollen extract in Ningxia Greens not only supports our overall immune system but also works hand in hand with the other ingredients high in antioxidants to help fight free radicals and keep the balance of healthy glutathione our bodies produce while decreasing GSSG (oxidized glutathione).
When we talk about Ningxia Red, we often talk about “whole body health” and “nutrient dense” ingredients. Ningxia Greens goes hand in hand with that philosophy. Staying true to how Gary Young did things, Young LIving is very intentional with every ingredient they include in our products. Every ingredient chosen for Ningxia Greens works together so our cells and systems are functioning at the highest levels. Like a tune up for our whole body.
This isn’t just eating your fruits and veggies, this is a bioavailable, digestive supporting, energy producing, immune boosting, and as Young Living says, “one scoop solution to health and wellness.” You can actually feel it working for you as you start taking it. The natural energy alone is worth it.
